The FSB takes Financial Literacy to the people of Platfontein

The Financial Services Board (FSB), in partnership with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), undertook a financial literacy campaign targeting residence of Platfontein, Northern Cape.  For many residences, the government's social grant is the only source of income, making this joint intervention between the FSB and SASSA specific to the needs of the consumers.

The aim of the campaign was to educate community members about money management, as well as their rights and responsibilities when buying financial products.

The campaign consisted of eight workshops and an outside broadcast, comprising of a series of interviews conducted by the experts from the FSB and SASSA on X-K FM, a community radio station.

The Consumer Education Department of the FSB continues to engage with community structures in Platfontein to identify ways in which the campaign can be improved to encourage behavioural change among consumers when managing their money.
