Tips that will help you identify a scam

  1. The first thing you need to do is, research the company that is calling you. Get their contact details and physical address and try and visit them. A website is not necessarily proof that the company exists and is legitimate. Many of these companies are "fronting".
  2. Check with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) if they are authorised to conduct business in South Africa.
  3. Share the information and the offered you have been given with other people and get opinions.
  4. Be wary if older investors get pay-outs from new investors, rather than from profits earned.
  5. Be wary of people that "testify" at the "recruitment" meetings.
  6. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
